GAME OVERVIEW

Phasma is a topdown Twinstick shooter that sees players take on a gauntlet of enemies in order to test their skills and see how long they can survive. Players will be swarmed by waves of enemies and bosses of various types of behaviors as they make their way through a procedurally generated endless dungeon.

  • Enemy Design: Creating diverse enemy types with dynamic upgrade paths, utilizing Unreal Engine’s Behavior Trees to design intelligent AI that adapts to player actions and evolves over time.
  • Boss Encounters: Developing intricate boss battles with unique movesets, brought to life through Animation Blueprints for smooth, responsive, and visually dynamic animations.
  • Progression System: Designing an upgrade system focused on agility, combat, and gadgets, enabling players to personalize their gameplay experience based on their preferred playstyle.
  • Core Gameplay Loop: Engineering fluid and responsive twin-stick mechanics that keep gameplay engaging and evolve alongside player progression.
  • Combat Mechanics: Implementing an intuitive parry system that rewards precise timing, allowing players to counter enemy attacks dynamically. Additionally, integrating an active reload mechanic to add a layer of skill and strategy, enhancing the tempo and intensity of combat encounters.
  • Technical Implementation: Using Blueprint Scripting to prototype and integrate key systems like character movement, enemy behaviors, and level mechanics, ensuring seamless interaction between gameplay and animation systems.
  • AI Development: Crafting advanced Behavior Trees for enemy decision-making, creating a dynamic and reactive gameplay experience.
  • Documentation & Iteration: Writing 40+ pages of detailed Game Design Documentation and conducting regular playtesting to refine AI, level flow, and upgrade mechanics based on feedback.
